One Of A Kind Project In Canada
Calabrian S02 Overview
The Calabrian S02 Clean plant project was a turnkey installation of the first of its kind in Canada. Patrick Mechanical was hired as the Mechanical general contractor in charge of the fabrication and installation of the Timmins SO2 plant which ran from July 2016 through to commissioning and operation in February of 2017.
This included managing sub-trades for:
Civil
Electrical
Refrigeration
Insulation
NDE
At the project peak there was approximately 80 workers directly and indirectly employed by Patrick Mechanical Ltd.

This was an especially challenging project due to the condensed project schedule and built to suit requirements as the design for this plant was taken from an existing plant located in Port Neches, TX and built to suit the climate of Northern Ontario.
Lessons Learned:
- Reporting and tracking for large scale time and material projects
- Development of proper shift rotations.
- Gather a clear understanding of QA/QC requirements and get involvement from TSSA and company QA QC from the onset of the project.
- Interim review of QA documents in order to facilitate smooth project closeout.
- Higher QA standard achieved as a shop deliverable and new bar set.
