Shop Welder

Overview

Reporting to the Shop Supervisor, the Shop Welder is responsible for welding of various projects in a shop environment. Important to have a steady hand and a great attention to detail. Must also have a strong knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Ability to pass and maintain CWB & TSSA Weld tickets
  • Ability to interpret drawings, work orders, welding processes, materials, and other documentation associated with production
  • Capable of applying key welding processes
  • Proper precautions, housekeeping and safety upheld at all times
  • Handle Materials –within the shop and outdoors as required
  • Operate Basic Hand Tools and Powered Hand Tools. ie Drills, Disc Grinders etc
  • Manually lifting weights between 20-50 lbs.
  • Following all workplace safety policies and compliance regulations
  • Assisting other warehouse personnel with various duties
  • Working in a fast-paced environment
  • Paying high attention to detail
  • Willing to work overtime as required and committed to doing what is necessary to ensure duties are completed.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requires Knowledge & Awareness of Following Tasks

  • Strong mathematical capability and layout skills
  • Ability to interpret drawings, work orders, welding processes, materials, and other documentation associated with production
  • Extensive knowledge of the standard methods, materials and equipment used in the welder and fabrication trades.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation of shop tools
  • Extensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and examine work for defects and measure work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Companies policies and procedure

Specific Skills Required

  • Problem-solving skills: to identify the causes and determine steps to resolve; implement and assess solutions.
  • Working with others: ability to work with individuals and within a team. (Required)
  • Reading skills: ability to follow written directions; interpret schedules work orders and drawings.
  • Writing skills: ability to enter information on forms, work orders maintenance records etc.
  • Math skills: ability to perform accurate -measurements, calculations, estimations, scheduling

Work Conditions

  • Field work (outdoors, dusty/dirty environments)
  • Driving (sitting for extended periods, maintaining focus and alertness while operating company vehicle)
  • At times it may be necessary to work outside of the regular work day in order to complete their duties.
